The R.M.Young Model 05103 Wind Monitor is an integrated wind speed and direction sensor featuring a rugged, corrosion-resistant design. Its four-blade propeller generates AC sine wave signals proportional to wind speed (0-100m/s range), while the vane utilizes a sealed potentiometer for directional measurement (0-355° electronic range). Constructed with UV-stabilized plastics, stainless steel, and anodized aluminum components, the sensor operates reliably in temperatures from -50°C to 50°C.
Key innovations include lightweight construction (1kg sensor weight), low starting threshold (1.0m/s), and dual output options: 05103V provides 0-5VDC output for data loggers, whereas 05103L offers 4-20mA current output for long cable runs. The marine-grade 05106 variant incorporates waterproof bearing lubricants for oceanic applications. All models feature stainless steel ball bearings with Teflon seals and wide-temperature grease for contamination resistance.
