The R.M.Young 50202 precipitation gauge is an advanced instrument for measuring rain or snowfall. It features a unique design without moving parts, unlike traditional tipping-bucket and weighing gauges. This design makes it particularly stable for use on moving platforms such as buoys and ships. The gauge has an insulated housing and a thermostatically controlled heater, allowing it to operate at temperatures below freezing. It measures precipitation using a capacitive sensor and electronic circuit to produce a voltage output, with total precipitation being trackable via a datalogger or recorder. The measurement range is 0 to 50 mm with an accuracy of ±1 mm. It operates within a temperature range of -20 to +50°C, making it suitable for various climates.
